Service Description

Foundation Gundog Course A supportive and structured course for young or inexperienced gundogs, designed to provide a breed-specific outlet for natural instincts while building focus, cooperation, and self-control. Suitable for all gundog breeds. No previous gundog training experience is required. At Dogitivity, we believe dogs thrive when their natural instincts are understood and channelled appropriately. Rather than trying to suppress behaviours such as chasing, hunting, retrieving, or exploring, we teach dogs how to use these instincts in a way that strengthens their relationship with their handler and creates greater control in everyday life. Throughout the course, we’ll develop the key foundation skills every gundog needs, including whistle recall, heel position, loose lead walking, steadiness, delivery to hand, settling between exercises, and learning how to use play as a reward. You’ll also learn how to better understand your dog’s motivation, arousal levels, and learning style, while improving your own timing, reward placement, and training skills. The Foundation Course is the first step in Dogitivity’s three-level gundog pathway: Foundation, Intermediate, and Advanced. By the end of the course, you’ll have the opportunity to take part in the Foundation Graduation Assessment. This is a fun and supportive way to see how far you and your dog have come and demonstrate the skills you’ve developed together. Dogs who successfully meet the Foundation criteria will graduate and be ready to move on to the Intermediate Gundog Course. The goal isn’t perfection. It’s building the confidence, understanding, and teamwork needed for the next stage of training. Your enrolment also includes access to the Dogitivity Online Gundog Course, with video demonstrations, homework, and additional guidance to support your progress between classes. Spaces are limited to ensure individual coaching and feedback.
