Day School For Pet Gundogs
We train your pet gundog while you get on with your day - structured learning with individual goals.
Service Description
Would you love some extra support with your pet gundog, but don’t feel like traditional daycare is the right fit? Our Day School for Pet Gundogs offers something different: a structured day of breed-specific training, enrichment and downtime, designed around the needs of gundog breeds. Rather than simply keeping your dog busy for the day, we train your dog for you. Every dog has an individual training plan based on their age, experience, personality and the skills you would like us to develop. Your dog will work one-to-one with an experienced gundog trainer, with training balanced with exercise, social opportunities and plenty of time to switch off and rest. Breed-specific training for pet gundogs Gundogs have been bred for generations to work closely with people, use their noses, retrieve, hunt and respond to direction. Those natural abilities don’t disappear simply because your gundog is a much-loved family pet. Our aim is to give those instincts an appropriate outlet while developing the everyday skills that make life together easier and more enjoyable. Depending on your dog and your goals, we can work on recall, loose-lead walking, heelwork, steadiness, retrieving, delivery, whistle cues, stop whistle, settling around other dogs and focus around distractions. For one dog, the priority might be calmness and connection; for another, recall around distractions; for a young retriever, retrieving and steadiness. There is no one-size-fits-all programme. What does a day look like? Your dog’s day will include: Individual one-to-one training A structured group walk Breed-specific activities and enrichment Carefully managed socialisation Settling and working around distractions Plenty of downtime and rest. We’ll share videos and feedback so you can see what we’ve been working on and continue developing those skills at home. Joining our Day School Before joining, you’ll have a phone conversation with Christina to discuss your dog, your goals and what you would like us to work on. As this is a small, carefully managed group, we assess each dog individually and consider the dogs already attending before confirming a place. Day School is not suitable for dogs experiencing significant anxiety or reactivity, as we want every dog to feel comfortable and able to learn in a group setting.
